Peers
In MSPControl, Peers are customizable user accounts that can be assigned distinct roles and permissions.
This feature enables administrators to delegate specific tasks or grant limited access to help desk staff, secondary administrators,
or external partners without exposing full root-level privileges.
Why Use Peers?
- Granular Permissions
Peers work with Peer Roles to define exactly what each account can view or modify, ensuring tight security and controlled delegation.
- Delegated Administration
Assign administrative responsibilities to different teams or individuals while keeping the main admin account separate and secure.
- Help Desk & Support Staff
Create peer accounts for support personnel who need read-only or partial write access, rather than granting full administrator privileges.
Creating a Peer Account
To create a new peer account, navigate to Peers from the MSPControl menu and click
Create Peer Account. You’ll see a form with several sections:
- User Name & Password
Provide a unique username. Set an initial password or use the Generate Password button.
Optionally, select Send Invitation to email credentials and mark Password never expires if desired.
- Role
Assign a default role (e.g., Administrator, Help Desk), which you can refine further using Peer Roles.
- Two Factor Authentication
Enable 2FA for enhanced security. Choose a provider if available (e.g., Google Authenticator).
- Mail & Status
Enter the primary and secondary email addresses, select HTML or Plain Text mail format, and set Status to Enabled or Disabled.
- Privileged Access Management
Optionally load groups for advanced security configurations.
- Contact Information
Provide address, city, region, postal code, and phone details. These fields are optional but can be useful for record-keeping.
- Photo
Upload a profile picture for easy identification within MSPControl.
After completing the form, click Save Changes to finalize the account. The peer can then log in with the specified credentials
or the invitation link (if sent).

Managing Peer Accounts
- Assigning Peer Roles
Once created, map the account to one or more Peer Roles to control what features or data they can access.
- Monitoring Activity
Columns like Last login and MS Account Status provide insights into recent access and Microsoft account linkage.
- Editing or Removing
Click on a peer’s username to adjust details or revoke access if they no longer need it.
By leveraging peer accounts, administrators maintain a secure, flexible environment, granting only the permissions necessary for each role.
This approach helps protect sensitive data and reduces the risk of accidental or malicious changes by unauthorized users.
